About
Aman Ullah, zamindar of Bajra, built the mosque in the reign of Muhammad Shah on a plinth beside a tank about 30 acres across; an imam sent from Delhi is buried in the grounds. The three black domes and the tall entrance with its cusped arches were restored around 1909 by his descendants, who covered the front in chini-tikri, the broken-porcelain mosaic that gives it its colour. It is the finest Mughal building in greater Noakhali and a listed monument, open between prayers.
Getting there: On the Noakhali–Cumilla road: bus or CNG from Maijdee to Bajra bazar (about 45 minutes), then a short walk.
Things to do
- Look closely at the porcelain mosaic on the front and the mihrab.
Good to know
- Modest dress; shoes off on the platform.
