A 37-acre tank 2 km west of the town in front of the circuit house, said to have been dug by Bijoy Sen, founder of the Sen dynasty, in the 12th century: the town's walk and picnic ground.

About

Whether a Sen king really cut it is unproven, but the tank is old, large and square, with high banks planted with trees, and it has been the district's best-known spot for as long as anyone remembers. The circuit house sits on one bank, there are benches and tea stalls, boats in the afternoon, and a crowd every evening and holiday. It is a short ride from Mohipal.

Getting there: Rickshaw or CNG from Mohipal or the station, 10 minutes, on the circuit house road.

Things to do

  • Walk the four banks at sunset.

Good to know

  • Holidays are crowded; weekday mornings are calm.
