About

Built in the 1980s, the project closed the river mouths with a dam and a regulator to keep salt water out and irrigate the plain behind. For visitors it is the open space of the district: the embankment road, the regulator gates roaring in the wet season, a row of wind turbines put up in 2005, fishing boats on the tidal side, and at the end of the day the sun going down into the estuary. Winter brings ducks and waders to the basin.

Getting there: CNG from Feni to Sonagazi (45 minutes), then on to the project; about 25 km from town.

Things to do

  • Walk the embankment to the turbines at sunset.

Good to know

  • No shade and few shops; carry water.
