About
The Marma community built the jadi under the monk U Pannya Jota with a design from Myanmar: a golden stupa on a terrace with smaller stupas, a bell, Buddha images in the Burmese manner, and a tall stair up from the road with a lake, Debota Pukur, below. It holds relics said to be of the Buddha, hence dhatu. Shoes come off at the foot of the stair and dress must cover shoulders and knees; the terrace is open mornings and afternoons and closed at midday and to visitors during some observances. The hilltop gives a view of the town and the Sangu.
Getting there: CNG from the town, 15 minutes toward Balaghata.
Things to do
- Climb at opening time, before the terrace heats up.
Good to know
- Shoes off at the stair; no shorts or sleeveless tops; no photos of the inner shrine.
