Known for
- 1
Zamindar houses.
Tangail has more grand estate houses within a day's drive than almost any district: the Spanish-style Mohera palace, the three matching mansions of Pakutia, the Chowdhury house at Nagarpur, the Panni family's Karatia and the Nawab manzil at Dhanbari.
- 2
Atia and Madhupur.
The four-domed Atia mosque of the early 1600s on the Louhajang, and in the north the Madhupur sal forest, home of Garo and Koch communities and of the district's pineapples.
- 3
Chomchom and saree.
Porabari's chomchom is the sweet the country names after Tangail, and the weavers of Pathrail and around make the light cotton Tangail saree.
Best season
GoodFairNov–Feb
November to February: dry roads between the estate houses, cool days in Madhupur forest. Pineapples come in June to August; the rains turn the low country green but make village roads slow.

Getting around
Tangail town
CNG for the day to the zamindar houses; buses north to Madhupur
Buses run from Mohakhali and Gabtoli in Dhaka to Tangail town on the north-western highway (2.5 to 4 hours, depending on traffic at Chandra). Trains to the north and west stop at Tangail and Mirzapur stations. Mohera is on the highway at Mirzapur; Madhupur and Dhanbari are an hour or more north of the town.

Tangail's famous sweet
Madhupur pineapple
Sweet and juicy, June to August
Porabari chomchom, a long, dense cottage-cheese sweet with a brown crust, is the must; the shops on Panch Ani Bazar in town sell it too. Madhupur's pineapples are famous in summer, and the Garo villages around the forest have their own cooking.
