About
Kalicharan Saha and Anandamohan Saha, merchants from Kolkata, founded the estate and raised several buildings in a mix of European styles, often said to be modelled on Córdoba. In 1971 the Pakistani army attacked the house and killed members of the family and villagers; the family left, and the house became a freedom fighters' camp.
Today it is a police training school, which keeps it in better shape than most zamindar houses: freshly painted façades, lawns, a pond with boats and a small museum. It is the easiest Tangail estate to see, right off the highway.
Getting there: On the Dhaka–Tangail highway at Mirzapur: get off at Mohera and walk or take a rickshaw in.
Things to do
- Walk the three main mansions and the museum, then sit by the pond.
Good to know
- Some areas are off limits as part of the training centre; follow the guards' directions.
