About

The estate grew over several generations of a merchant family turned landlords, so its buildings were not raised all at once. The four big blocks on the front, with Corinthian columns and lion statues on the parapet, are the picture everyone knows; behind them lie the inner living quarters and a large tank.

The Archaeology Department runs it, and one of the buildings holds a small museum. It is about 35 km from Dhaka, an easy day trip.

Getting there: Bus from Gabtali to Saturia, then an auto to Baliati, about 15 minutes.

Things to do

  • Walk round to the inner quarters and the pond behind the front.
