About
Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury was one of the founders of Dhaka University and among the first to argue for Bangla as a state language; he held office under the British and was titled Nawab. The family's Dhanbari house, locally called the Nawab palace, dates from his family's time in the 19th century.
The palace, its big pond with a ghat and the old Dhanbari mosque nearby make a good stop on the way to or from Madhupur forest.
Getting there: Bus from Tangail towards Jamalpur to Dhanbari, about 1.5 hours, then a rickshaw.
Things to do
- Walk round the pond and see the old mosque beside the palace.
Good to know
- Combine with Madhupur forest; both are in the north of the district.
