About

Row after row of shimul (Bombax ceiba) trees stand on the sandy bank across from Barik Tila, with the Meghalaya hills behind. In Falgun and Chaitra, especially February, the bare branches are covered in red flowers and the ground carpeted with fallen petals, and the garden becomes one of the most photographed places in the district.

Outside the flowering season it is a quiet shaded grove.

Getting there: From Tahirpur by motorbike or CNG towards the Jadukata, often combined with Barik Tila.

Things to do

  • Walk the rows in the early morning light.

Good to know

  • Do not pick flowers or climb the trees.
