About

Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India, laid the foundation stone in 1904, when Dhaka was about to become capital of the new province of Eastern Bengal and Assam. Arched windows, jharokha balconies and domed corner towers give it its look.

The building is in use by the university, but the lawns and the pond in front are open and full of students; it was also a centre of the language movement in 1952.

Getting there: Metro to Dhaka University station, then walk.

Things to do

  • Combine with the Shaheed Minar a short walk away.

Good to know

  • Do not enter classrooms; the grounds are enough.
