About
Students demanding Bangla as a state language were shot near this spot on 21 February 1952. A first memorial was put up within days and pulled down; the present design of white columns and a red disc, read as a mother and her children before the rising sun, followed later.
From midnight on 21 February people walk barefoot here with flowers; UNESCO marks the day as International Mother Language Day.
Getting there: Metro to Dhaka University station, then a short walk.
