About

Cumilla was a hospital and supply base for the Fourteenth Army, and those who died here were buried on this ground, which the Commonwealth War Graves Commission still maintains. The headstones stand in curved rows on a lawn: British, Indian, East and West African, Australian, Canadian and Japanese dead, each with a name, a regiment and often a line from the family. A Muslim section lies apart.

It is one of two such cemeteries in the country, with Chattogram's, and is open daily.

Getting there: On the Cumilla–Sylhet road near the cantonment, a CNG from Kandirpar.

Things to do

  • Read the inscriptions; the register is kept at the gate.

Good to know
