Cumilla Town Hall, built in 1885 on land given by Maharaja Birchandra Manikya of Tripura: a public library and hall in the colonial style that is still the centre of the city's cultural life.

About

The district magistrate F. H. Skrine asked the Maharaja for land for a library, and the hall that rose on it carries his name. Rabindranath Tagore, Nazrul and Gandhi all spoke here; the library keeps old Bengali newspapers and books, and the hall hosts the city's meetings, fairs and concerts. The building, with its arched verandahs and high ceilings, stands in the heart of Kandirpar.
