About
No inscription survives, so the builder is argued over: local tradition gives it to Shah Shuja, Shah Jahan's son and governor of Bengal, around 1658. The old mosque is a three-domed oblong of the Mughal provincial type with corner towers, now enlarged with a modern front and a tall minaret that hide much of it. Inside, the original mihrabs and the plastered domes remain.
It stands by the Gumti embankment a short walk from Dharmasagar; visit between prayers.
Getting there: Mughaltuli, a rickshaw from Kandirpar.
Things to do
- Look for the original mihrabs behind the modern extension.
Good to know
- Modest dress; women ask at the gate for the women's section.
