A 250-year-old Muslim zamindar estate at Rupsha in Faridganj: a gateway, the main two-storey house, outbuildings, a mosque and the family graveyard, still partly lived in.
At a glance
- Age
- About 250 years
About
The founder bought the estate from the British when the earlier Hindu zamindari fell, and his descendants, the Chowdhurys of Rupsha, built the house that stands now: a plastered front with columns and arches, a long verandah, a walled compound with its own mosque and graves. Unlike most such houses it was not abandoned, so it is in better shape; ask at the gate before walking in.
Getting there: CNG from Faridganj bazar, about 20 minutes.
Things to do
- Pair it with Lohagar Math, both in Faridganj.
