About

The mole head is a spit built out into the confluence to protect the port, now a paved point with a small park, a monument and benches at the very edge of the water. Three rivers meet in front of it and the far bank is only a line. Launches from Dhaka come round the point into the ghat, fishing boats land hilsa at the Boro Station market a few steps away, and from late afternoon the whole town walks out here.

Boatmen on the ghat take you out onto the confluence for a half hour; the current is fierce, so go with a life jacket and in daylight.

Getting there: At the launch ghat, a short walk or rickshaw from anywhere in the town.

Things to do

  • Buy hilsa at the Boro Station market and have a restaurant fry it.
  • Sunset from the point.

Good to know

  • Never swim here; the eddies at the confluence take lives every year.
