About
The zamindars Lauh and Gahar gave the place its name, and their family built these octagonal spired shrines, the tallest about 20 metres, on the riverbank beside their house. The stories told about them, cruel landlords who tested the point of a spear on the poor and whose wealth vanished with their line, are what every rickshaw-wallah will tell you; the towers themselves are plain, weathered and striking against the flat country.
The zamindar house nearby is a ruin. It is a half-hour from Faridganj bazar.
Getting there: Bus or CNG from Chandpur to Faridganj (about 45 minutes), then CNG to Lohagar.
Things to do
- See the ruined zamindar house behind the maths.
Good to know
- The riverbank is eroding; keep back from the edge.
