About
The fall itself drops down a green hillside on the Indian side, where it is known as Borhill Falls; locals on this side also call it Fatachhori. From Panthumai, a border village in West Jaflong union, you watch it across the water, close enough to hear it in the rains.
Boats from Hadarpar usually make one round of Bisnakandi, Lakshmanchhara and Panthumai, so most people see all three in a single day. There is no guard post on this stretch, and the border runs along a line of trees just beyond the river.
Getting there: From Sylhet city about 1.5 hours by CNG or car to Hadarpar bazar (a CNG also runs there from Gowainghat bazar), then a boat up the Piyain.
Things to do
- Watch the fall from the boat on the Piyain.
- Make one day of it with Bisnakandi and Lakshmanchhara.
Good to know
- The fall is in India: stay on this side of the tree line and never cross the border.
- Carry your national ID card; border areas can have checks.
- In the rains the river runs fast: wear a life jacket, don't overload the boat and don't swim in the current.
- There is little food at the fall; bring some from Sylhet or Gowainghat, or eat at Hadarpar.
Getting there
At Hadarpar, hire one boat for the whole round of Bisnakandi, Lakshmanchhara and Panthumai, and check the boatman knows all three.
