About

The boat from town takes about two hours up the lake, past islands and into the gorge, where the channel narrows between high cliffs. The big fall drops into the lake itself; you step off at a landing beside it and climb a short stair to the pool. There is a smaller fall near by and the Shuvolong bazar and army camp a little further. In winter the fall thins to a stream, but the gorge is worth the trip in any month.

Getting there: Only by hired boat from the town ghats, about two hours each way.

Things to do

  • Stand under the fall after the rains; look up at the gorge walls on the way in.

Good to know

  • Carry ID; the army checkpost at Shuvolong registers boats.
