About

The embankment that protects the city doubles as its promenade. From Padma Garden (also called Oddvar Munksgaard Park) the path runs along the water with benches, food stalls and steps down to the bank. In the dry months the river pulls back and sandbars appear; in the monsoon it fills to the horizon.

Boatmen offer short rides and crossings to the chars. Come an hour before sunset and stay for the lights.

Getting there: Rickshaw or auto-rickshaw to Padma Garden near the city centre.

Things to do

  • Walk the embankment at sunset, then take a short boat ride.

Good to know

  • Agree the boat fare and time before you board; wear a life jacket.
