Hatiya Island

Noakhali

The big island in the Meghna estuary, 60 km long, with half a million people, a bazar town at Oskhali, embankments, fishing fleets and the road south to Nijhum Dwip; the stepping stone for the whole trip.

Nijhum Dwip

Noakhali

The "silent island" at the southern tip of Hatiya: a planted mangrove forest on 1970s char land, thousands of spotted deer, a wide beach, winter birds and a sunset over the open sea; a national park since 2001.

Island

Dhal Char

Bhola

One of the remotest inhabited islands in the country, far out in the Bay at the south of Bhola, with forest, beach and a fishing community living on shifting land.

An island upazila in the Meghna, east of Bhola, known for its green fields, open river views, deer in the planted forest and the film that carried its name.
