About
Kutubdia is about 15 km long and a world away from the tourist beach. People come for the lighthouse (batighar), first built by the British in 1846 and rebuilt since, the wind farm on the western shore, the empty beach and the salt and shutki economy that runs the island. Erosion is eating its edges; the embankment walk shows how hard the sea presses here.
There are a few basic guesthouses in Boro Ghop; most visitors come for the day.
Getting there: Bus from town to Pekua or Magnama ghat (about 2 hours), then a trawler or speedboat across the channel.
Things to do
- Walk the western embankment past the wind masts at sunset.
Good to know
- Check the last boat back; crossings stop in rough weather.
