About

Kadigarh was declared a national park on 24 October 2010 to protect 344 hectares of sal forest in the south of the district. It lies about a kilometre north of Kachina Bazar on the road from Seedstore Bazar to Sakhipur, by the Palgaon crossroads, between the villages of Kachina and Palgaon.

It is a quiet, little-visited forest, and it is under pressure. Sawmills have been set up in the villages around it against forest department rules, and big sal trees are cut by day and by night and sold to furniture shops in nearby markets. Come to walk under the sal while it is still there.

Getting there: In Kachina union, Bhaluka: about 1 km north of Kachina Bazar on the Seedstore Bazar–Sakhipur road.

Things to do

  • Walk the forest paths under the sal.

Good to know

  • Come in daylight and bring water.
  • The paths turn muddy in the monsoon.
