About
Historians credit Mir Jumla with the fort, built to hold the rivers against Magh and Portuguese raiders and to complete a triangle with Hajiganj and Sonakanda in Narayanganj. Its plan is two walled enclosures, with a high round drum for cannon at one end and battlements with loopholes all round.
The river has long since moved away, and the fort now sits inside the town, protected by the Archaeology Department.
Getting there: In Munshiganj town; a rickshaw from the launch ghat or bus stand.
Things to do
- Climb the round cannon drum for a view over the town.
Good to know
- Combine with Baba Adam's mosque, a short ride away.
