About

A tea research station was set up here in 1952 and raised to an institute in 1973; it works under the Bangladesh Tea Board. It is among the oldest tea research centres in the subcontinent after Assam.

Visitors walk the neatly kept grounds and trial plots, where new tea clones are bred, and see unusual trees such as the cannonball tree.

Getting there: A short ride from Sreemangal town on the Moulvibazar road.

Things to do

  • Walk the trial gardens and the nursery.

Good to know

  • It is a working institute: ask at the gate whether visitors are allowed that day.
