A protected wetland of about 100 hectares in Hail Haor near Sreemangal, with a watchtower over water full of winter birds.
At a glance
- Protected since
- 2003
- Area
- About 100 ha
About
In 2003 the government set the beel aside as a permanent fish sanctuary, and with fishing stopped the birds came back. Fish breed here and spread through the whole haor.
In winter cormorants, egrets, herons, jacanas and migratory ducks crowd the water, and lotus and water lilies cover it in places. A tower and a short raised path let you watch without disturbing them.
Getting there: By CNG from Sreemangal, about an hour.
Things to do
- Climb the watchtower early in the morning.
Good to know
- The last stretch of road is rough; go by CNG and agree the wait.
