About

The Dharla comes down from the Himalaya through Sikkim and West Bengal, where it is called the Jaldhaka, and joins the Brahmaputra in Kurigram. In winter it shrinks to channels between wide white sand; in the rains it fills bank to bank.

The bridge approaches and the embankment are the town's evening walk, with tea stalls and boats on the water below.

Getting there: A short rickshaw or auto ride from Kurigram town.

Things to do

  • Walk down to the sand at sunset in winter.

Good to know

  • Do not stop vehicles on the bridge deck for photos; use the approaches.
