About
The family traces its start to the mid-eighteenth century, when an official in the service of the Bengal nawabs settled in the area and was granted land; the title "munshi" came from that post. The house that stands now was built much later, in the colonial era.
Its façade, with columns, arches and floral plaster, is well kept, and the grounds include temples and a large pond. It is in government care and open to visit.
Getting there: Ulipur is about 15 km south of Kurigram town by bus or CNG; the house is near the town centre.
Things to do
- Photograph the pillared front across the pond.
Good to know
- Pair it with Chilmari port further south on the same road.
