About
Chilmari was once a busy trading port for jute and goods going downriver. Its fortunes faded, but the ghat is alive again with passenger boats and a ferry service, and the place keeps its fame through the old songs.
Come in the late afternoon: boats come and go, fishermen land their catch, and the sun sets over the Brahmaputra. A short boat ride out shows the chars up close.
Getting there: About 40 km south of Kurigram town by bus or CNG via Ulipur.
Things to do
- Stay for sunset on the river; take a short boat to a char.
Good to know
- Life jackets on every boat; agree the fare before you board.
