About

The pond is about 5 acres on top of a hill, with no stream feeding it and water all year, which is why the Tripura villagers hold it holy and bathe in it at Chaitra Sankranti, when a fair sets up on the summit. The climb from the Khagrachari–Mahalchhari road is steep and takes about an hour through jhum fields and forest; the view from the top is the reward with the water. There is nothing to buy up there.

Getting there: Bus or CNG from town toward Mahalchhari to Nunchhari (about 30 minutes), then the footpath up.

Things to do

  • Climb early and sit by the water before the heat.

Good to know

  • Take water and a local guide from Nunchhari; respect the bathing area.
