About

The land around Bhimruli is a maze of guava orchards cut by narrow canals, and the canals are how the fruit moves. In season the market gathers each morning: dozens of small boats, green with guava, packed together where the waterways meet.

Hire a boat to drift through the market and then into the orchard canals. Other fruit and vegetables are sold too, but guava is the reason to come. The market runs through the season; outside it the canals are quiet.

Getting there: About 12 km from Jhalokati town by auto, then a boat on the canal.

Things to do

  • Drift through the market, then into the orchard canals.
  • Buy guava straight from a grower's boat.

Good to know

  • Arrive early; trading thins out by midday.
