About
Nawab Abdul Ghani completed the palace in 1872 and named it after his son Ahsanullah. A tornado in 1888 damaged it badly and it was rebuilt with the dome that now marks the skyline of the river front. For decades it was the centre of Dhaka's politics and society.
After restoration it opened as a branch of the National Museum. Its rooms show furniture, portraits and photographs of the Nawabi era; the lawn in front runs down to the river.
Getting there: Rickshaw from Sadarghat or Islampur, a few minutes.
Things to do
- Walk through the rooms, then cross to Sadarghat for the river.
Good to know
- Check the weekly closing day before you go.
