The island's long western shore, facing the open Bay: sand broken by coral rock, palms and keya behind, and the sunset straight ahead.

Plan your visit

Best time
Late afternoon to sunset.

About

The west side faces the open sea, about a kilometre's walk across the island from the jetty. At low tide the coral rock shows between stretches of sand, and in the evening most visitors come here to watch the sun go down into the sea.

Sea turtles nest on the island's beaches, so the beach rules apply here in full: no lights or loud music at night, no barbecues, and keep out of the keya thickets along the top of the beach.

Things to do

  • Walk the shore at low tide and look at the coral rock without stepping on it.

Good to know

  • Swim only where the sand is clear of rock, and not alone.
