About

Himchari is the first stop everyone makes on the marine drive. On the land side a stream drops off the hill into a shallow pool; it is a real fall only in and just after the monsoon, a trickle by winter. The stair beside it climbs a few hundred steps to a viewpoint with the sand running north to the town and south to Inani, and the sea the whole width of the view.

The Himchari National Park behind holds the last mixed forest on this coast; a few trails go in from the road. On the beach side the sand here is wider and quieter than in town.

Getting there: CNG or a reserved car down the marine drive, 20 minutes from Kolatoli.

Things to do

  • Climb to the viewpoint for the whole beach in one look.

Good to know

  • The stair is steep; go in the morning before the heat.
