About
Laboni is where the town meets the beach. The Burmese market and the beach market sit at its back, the old hotels along the road, and the sand in front fills every evening with families, students on tour and wedding parties in matching clothes. Tube and chair sellers, photographers with instant prints and horse rides work the crowd.
It is loud and lively rather than beautiful; for empty sand go south. But for the first sight of the sea, a plate of fried fish at a stall and the whole country on holiday around you, this is the place.
Getting there: At the sea end of Laboni Road, a short rickshaw from anywhere in town.
Things to do
- Browse the Burmese market for achar, dried fruit and shell crafts.
Good to know
- Keep bags close in the evening crowd.
