About

Haripur Barabari is the largest zamindar house in the district: a long front of columns and balconies over three floors, a courtyard, a temple and tanks around it, built of lime and brick in the Indo-European style of its time. The family left after 1947 and the house has been used as school and office, filmed in, and slowly stripped; parts are unsafe. It stands in Haripur union near the Meghna haor edge, a long way from the town, which is why it stays so quiet.

Getting there: CNG from Nasirnagar bazar, itself about an hour from the town by bus or CNG; in the haor season partly by boat.

Things to do

  • Walk the front colonnade and the tank side.

Good to know

  • Do not climb the upper floors; the structure is weak.
