About

Gangasagar lies between the town and the Akhaura border, in a flat country of tanks and rail lines. The dighi is one of the biggest in the district and holds a place in local belief as a substitute for the Ganges: on Chaitra Sankranti and Ashtami people come to bathe and a fair sets up on the bank. The rest of the year it is a quiet sheet of water with a village around it.

Getting there: Local train or CNG toward Akhaura; Gangasagar station is beside it.

Things to do

  • Time it for the Ashtami bath if you want the fair.

Good to know

  • A stop on the way to Akhaura, not a trip of its own.
