About
Barishal has long been one of the country's busiest river ports. Every evening several multi-deck launches leave for Dhaka's Sadarghat, and others arrive at first light, along with smaller boats to the islands and towns of the south.
The journey itself is the experience: a cabin or deck space, tea on the rail, the wide rivers at night. Watching the launches load in the late afternoon is a sight even if you are not travelling.
Getting there: On the riverfront in the city, by rickshaw.
Things to do
- Take the evening launch to or from Dhaka at least once.
Good to know
- Book cabins ahead before Eid; in a storm signal, launches do not sail.
