A set of natural caves in a hill above the Matamuhuri river at Alikadam, reached by a stream walk and bamboo ladders: narrow dark passages through the rock, a local legend of a saint named Ali, and the southern district's one well-known sight.

- About 3 km
About
Alikadam is the upazila in the south of the district, on the Matamuhuri, reached from Chakaria in Cox's Bazar as easily as from Bandarban. The caves are 3 km from the bazar: a walk up a streambed, then bamboo ladders up the cliff to three or four openings in the rock, the longest a crawl of some 50 metres with a torch. The Marma name is different; the Ali of the story is a Muslim saint said to have lived here. Take a local guide and a torch, and do not go in the rains.
Getting there: Bus from Bandarban or Chakaria to Alikadam (2–3 h), then CNG and on foot.
Things to do
- Crawl the long cave with a torch; sit on the cliff above the Matamuhuri after.
Good to know
- Ladders and wet rock; not in rain, not alone.
