About
Tonkonath's forebears were not landlords: his father Buddhinath served as priest at the temple of a childless zamindar, who left the estate to the family. Tonkonath built this palace in the early 1900s and was given the title of raja.
The house is roofless in places but the front, the inner rooms and the gateway still give a sense of its scale. It is a quiet place to walk round on a winter afternoon.
Getting there: Bus from Thakurgaon to Ranisankail, about 40 km, then an auto.
Things to do
- See the front and the rows of rooms inside.
Good to know
- Parts are roofless; keep to the solid floors.
