About

Talkhari remembers a sage named Lokenath as its own. By legend he was born here, became a disciple of Sri Chaitanya, and on his guru's word came back to the area and built this temple in his birth village for his followers, setting images of Radha and Krishna inside. Locally it is known as the Gopal Jiu or the Radha Krishna temple, and it is said that Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Lokenath Brahmachari rested here on a journey.

The Pakistani army badly damaged the temple during the Liberation War of 1971; Talkhari also saw seven freedom fighters killed by razakars. Later the Department of Archaeology restored the temple with help from local people, and it is now a protected monument where puja is still offered at festivals.
