About
The dargah of Hazrat Pir Mokarram Ali Shah stands on the bank of the Nabaganga at Ichakhada, on the right of the Magura–Jhenaidah highway about 7 km west of town. It is one of the district's best-known shrines, and people come to pray and to pay their respects.
The same stretch of road holds a harder history. Between 1856 and 1860 the indigo uprising in this district centred on the indigo factory, the neelkuthi, at Hazrapur; the villages of Boroi, Amtola and Nahati were among the places where farmers were forced to grow indigo on a large scale. Hazrapur union lists indigo factories at both Rajarampur and Hazrapur among its sights; little of them is described, so ask locally where they stood. A few kilometres back towards town, at Hajipur, the Dr Lutfar Rahman memorial library and cultural centre is also on the district's list of places to see.
Getting there: Any bus, tempo or van on the Magura–Jhenaidah road from Vaina More; get off at Ichakhada, about 7 km west.
