About
Lalon died in 1890 and was buried where he had lived with his disciples; followers kept coming, and the place grew into a shrine. The present tomb, a white domed building, dates from 1963, with the graves of his disciples around it and an auditorium and academy beside it.
Most visitors come for the songs. Bauls sit in the courtyard with ektara and dotara, and on festival days the grounds and the fields outside fill with tents, singers and a fair for several days.
Getting there: Easy-bike or rickshaw from Kushtia town or the bus stand, about 15 minutes.
Things to do
- Sit with the Bauls in the courtyard in the evening and listen.
Good to know
- Dress modestly and take your shoes off at the tomb.
- Rooms in town fill up at festival time; book early.
