About

The railway needed water for its workshops at Pahartali, so in 1924 it dammed a valley in the hills above the city; the lake took the name of Mr Foy, the engineer in charge. For decades it was a quiet picnic spot with hills on three sides and the Bay visible from the ridges. Since the 2000s a private company has run it as an amusement park, with rides, a water park, a small zoo, a concert ground and a resort, and the lake itself is crossed by boat to the far shore and the walking paths on the hills.

It is a city park, busy and built up, not a wild place; the value is the water between green hills in the middle of Chattogram, a slow boat across it, and the view from the top of the ridge. Families and school groups fill it on holidays.

Getting there: CNG or ride-hailing to Foy's Lake gate at Khulshi, 20–30 minutes from the station.

Things to do

  • Take the boat across the lake and walk the ridge path for the view.

Good to know

  • Go on a weekday morning; weekends queue for every ride.
