About

The mosque, built under Sultan Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah, has lost its domes, but its long prayer hall, rows of arches and carved brick mihrabs still stand among the trees. It is one of the largest mosques of the period.

About a kilometre away lies the madrasa, its name the root of 'Darasbari', the house of learning: a square of student cells around a courtyard, laid out in the time of Alauddin Husain Shah and uncovered by excavation. Both sit in quiet fields close to the border, a short van ride from Choto Sona Mosque.

Getting there: From Sonamasjid by van or on foot, a couple of kilometres.

Things to do

  • Walk the length of the arcades, then find the madrasa cells.

Good to know

  • Go in daylight with a van driver who knows the paths; the border is close.
