About
Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy built the palace over about ten years at the start of the twentieth century. It faces east with a frontage of some 76 metres, two storeys, a broad marble staircase straight up to the upper floor and a ribbed dome over the centre. In the 1980s it briefly housed a bench of the High Court.
Today the upper floor is the museum: terracotta, Sanskrit and Arabic manuscripts, old weapons and coins. The grounds, with their pond and trees, are a favourite walk for townspeople in the late afternoon.
Getting there: About 6 km south-east of the city centre by rickshaw or CNG.
Things to do
- See the museum upstairs, then walk round the pond for the full front of the palace.
Good to know
- Check the day before you go: it closes on Sundays and some holidays.
