About

Goalanda was a river port from the British era, where trains met the steamers. Daulatdia, a little downstream, took over as the ferry ghat for the Paturia crossing. Even after the Padma Bridge, many buses still cross here.

The draw is the river: its sheer width at the confluence, the bustle of loading ferries, and hilsa fried fresh at the ghat stalls. A short boat ride shows it best.

Getting there: About half an hour by bus or CNG from Rajbari town.

Things to do

  • Eat fresh-fried hilsa at a ghat stall.
  • Take a short boat out at sunset.

Good to know

  • The ghat area is crowded; keep your belongings close.
  • Avoid the river in stormy weather.
