About

Steamers on the Kolkata–Assam route called here before partition, and the ghat's ferry service began in 1963. Until the 1990s most people going from Dhaka to the north and west crossed here; the ferries later moved to Paturia and the Jamuna bridge took the northern traffic.

Today it is a riverside of boats, fishermen and wide water near where the Jamuna meets the Padma, best at sunset.

Getting there: Bus from Gabtali on the Dhaka–Aricha highway to the end of the line.

Things to do

  • Hire a small boat for an hour on the river at sunset.

Good to know

  • Wear a life jacket on small boats; the current is strong.
