About
Locals call it Sagar Kanya, the daughter of the sea. The beach is wide and flat, with the town and its hotels at the middle and the sand running east towards Gangamati and west towards Lebur Char. The name is said to come from a well (kua) dug by Rakhine settlers who came here for fresh water.
Mornings start early at the eastern end for the sunrise; evenings bring everyone back to the western side. Motorbike riders wait on the sand to take you to either end, and fried fish stalls open at dusk.
Getting there: The beach is at the end of the road into Kuakata town.
Things to do
- Watch the sunrise from the east and the sunset from the west on the same day.
Good to know
- Swim only where it is calm and never at dusk; the currents are strong.
- Fix the motorbike fare before you ride.
