On the mornings of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha, worshippers fill the ground and the streets around it; recent counts run to several hundred thousand. By tradition, gunshots fired into the air signal that prayers are about to begin.
On other days it is a quiet open field; the scale is only felt on Eid.
